An original British Army Ordinary Ranks Khaki Drill Tunic dating from the inter-war period and in good condition.

This pattern of tunic, or 'frock' to give it its correct name, closely follows that of the pattern worn during the Great War. It is made from a tan - khaki coloured cotton drill and features pleated patch pockets to the chest, epaulettes at the shoulders, a stand and fall collar as well as a pointed cuff. The jacket is fitted with a set of brass Kings crown buttons which are all held in place with brass split rings and there is evidence of where shoulder titles were previously fitted to the epaulettes.

Inside the tunic the original owner has marked his serial number which may offer the prospect of further research. Standard Indian stamps are also present including the circular date stamp which sadly is very faded although looks to date from 1931. There is also a First Field Dress pocket to the interior which is a feature of British tunics from the Great War through to the start of the Second World War.

The tunic is a smaller size which will suit around a 36" chest and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Length - 28"
Shoulders - 16 1/4"

The condition of the tunic is very good for its age. It only shows limited signs of wear and use and overall is bright and fresh. There is a stain to the rear as shown in picture 12 but overall it is a clean example. Please study the pictures to access the condition before purchasing.

A nice inter-war tunic which is a hard to find pattern today!
