A very nice lightly used example of The "Coat, Mackinaw, OD", also called the "Jeep Coat" which was first issued in 1938. Overall condition is very good with no tears or damage other that a very minor area of reenforced stitching to the top of the waistbelt where it has rubbed on the buckle. On the left sleeve is the circular patch of the 9th Infantry Division

Made in a water resistant cotton duck outer shell with a wool blanked lining, the distinguishing feature of the first pattern Mackinaw was that the 30 oz. blanket lining which extends visibly over the shawl collar.

The coat is double breasted and held closed with two rows of three buttons each, and a cotton cloth waist belt with metal c buckle. Below the belt were two flap-front pockets, the cuffs with a two button adjust able strap.

I can find no markings and the Coat would appear to be a good fit for up to a 38" -  40” clothed chest.

The 9th Division went through eight battles and was already a “veteran Division” by the time that D-Day started. Having fought in Algeria – French Morocco, Tunisia, and Sicily, the Division helped to cut off the French Peninsula during the battle of Normandy, fought their way through Belgium, and was among the first to set foot on German soil in September 1944. Here they fought heavy battles in the Huertgen Forest. After this they fought in the Ardennes, went across the Rhineland, and finally ended up in Central Europe.

A good wearable or displayable example
