A rare original pair of leather Turkish slippers dating from the 1940s.

These handsome leather shoes belonged to a British Army officer who served overseas during the Second World War. They are typical of the bizarre made items bought by British officer's when stationed overseas.

The shoes are made in the typical Turkish slipper style from a cherry red coloured leather. They feature the leather tails to the toe which are one of the distinguishing features of this style along with a leather sole. The vamp features a stitched monogram detail in a typical eastern design.

The shoes are a small size of perhaps a UK 6. The outside of the soles measures 11 1/4" long and the insole measures 10 1/2".

The shoes are in good condition and display well. They show signs of light use to the soles, most likely from being worn occasionally as slippers and possibly indoors. There is a slight loss of stitching at one of the toes but this is only superficial.

A nice piece of WW2 private purchase officers kit!
