An original post Second World War Women's Voluntary Service Overcoat in excellent condition.

This coat is almost identical to wartime manufactured examples in every way. The only detail that differs is the lack of wrist tabs which are only seen on the wartime pattern. Aside from that, the coat is identical. It is made from a green coloured herringbone tweed wool and features a contrasting maroon lining. The coat fastens with buttons and features a double breasted front whilst slash pockets are located to each hip. The coat is fitted with Civil Defence 'Welfare' shoulder titles to the top of each sleeve as well as a 'Cambridgeshire' area title to the bottom of the right sleeve. The rear of the coat features a half belt, two long unpressed pleats and a single vent to the skirt. Inside the coat there is a single label which reads '100% Wool' which is typical of the period. There is a hanging loop at the collar and 'CDW 36' has been added in ink to the lining.

The coat will suit around a 32" bust depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18 1/2"
Waist - 16"
Drop - 36"
Inside arm - 16 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/4"
Shoulders - 15"
Length at back - 45 1/2"

The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows some limited signs of wear and use but overall it displays very well and is still totally wearable. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very good example of this rare pattern of coat which would make a good stand-in for a wartime example.
