An early example of a 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress Blouse in a large size 12 which is in condition.

The jacket is an early production version of the austerity pattern and features twin inside pockets, whereas most later austerity jackets only feature one. It is fitted with chocolate brown coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons which are another trait of these early production jackets. The epaulettes are fitted with small size revolving shank buttons which is an interesting detail and most likely a manufacturer's quirk.

Inside the jacket the original label is present and isn't overly worn or faded meaning it is still easily legible. The 1942 date is clear at the bottom as is the maker's name 'Denham Ltd'. The War Department stamp broad arrow marking is also present, as is the size of 12.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 24 1/4
Inside arm - 18 3/4
Outside arm - 25 3/4
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length - 22"

The overall condition of the jacket really is very good. The nap of the serge is still good and fluffy and there are no serious signs of wear or use. Overall it displays very well and is totally wearable but please study the pictures before purchasing.

Overall a very nice example of a wartime British Battledress blouse which is not only an early example of austerity production but also a generous size.
