Original US Army, WW2 era, shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI).  The patch would have been worn on the shirts and jackets of US GIs who served in this unit.  Original period item, which has been constructed on felt, with this variant having a cheesecloth backing.  A rarer example therefore and not an issued style of patch, likely private purchase.
