A rare pair of 1940 dated Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's trousers which are complete with their original label.

This pattern of trousers was introduced during the inter-war period and were worn by all ranks up to the rank of Flight Sergeant. They were worn by both Aircrew and Groundcrew in the early part of the Second World War until they were replaced in late 1940 with the 'Suits, Aircrew' battledress uniform.

The trousers are made from the standard RAF blue-grey coloured serge wool and feature slash pockets to the hips. The original owner has removed the pocket bags for some reason although this doesn't really affect the way in which they display. The trousers feature a white cotton lining and stamped brass buttons which are both typical features found on early war trousers made prior to 1942.

To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers, Blue-Grey OA' alond with the size of 13. The 1940 date is found towards the bottom of the label and is very clear, as is the 1940 contract number.

The trousers will suit a 32" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 16 "
Inside leg - 29 1/2"

The condition of the trousers is reasonably good overall with various signs of wear and use. There are some holes to the front and some staining etc which is illustrated in the pictures. There are also some small repairs near to the pocket openings although these are only noticable under close scrutiny . Please take time to study these and bear in mind that they are a pre-owned, vintage item with some flaws commensurate with age.

These trousers would undoubtedly compliment any wartime RAF collection. Battle of Britain period dated example of these trousers are very hard to find today!
