An original 1942 dated British military Hospital blues jacket in good condition.

This pattern of jacket was produced during the Second World War for men who were in hospital or convalescent homes. It was issued as part of a three piece suit which included a matching waistcoat and trousers. It is made from a bright French blue coloured serge wool and is cut in an early style which would not have looked out of place during the Edwardian period or the 1920s. It features a four button front with high fastening, narrow shoulder displacement and a long skirt which are all typical early 20th Century features. As well as this there are patch pockets located to the skirt and a hanging loop at the neck. The jacket is a truly utilitarian design and does not feature a lining.

There original stamps are present to the interior including the size of 2 and the War Department broad arrow marking. The maker's initials of 'J. C. S & W' are also present and denote the maker as James Compton Sons & Webb. The date is below this which appears to be 1942 although it is hard to read.

The jacket is a small size which will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 19"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 16"
Length - 28"

The jacket is in very good condition with no real signs of wear and use. It displays very well and is still very fresh being a strong bold colour with no signs of fading or washing-out of the blue coloured. There is a small hole towards the bottom of the jacket as is illustrated in the pictures but this is only noticeable under close scrutiny. It is a vintage pre-owned item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice original example of this hard to find pattern of jacket.
