A rare original pair of British Drill Green Fatigue Trousers, dating from the Second World War.

At first glance these trousers appear to be a standard wartime pattern Denim Battledress trousers when in fact they are the much rarer drill pattern. Rather than being made of denim, this pattern of trousers is made from cotton drill which is a noticeably more vivid green colour. Items were made in this material between 1940 and 1945, most likely due to a shortage of denim, and confirm that these are a wartime item.

The trousers are cut in the same way as their denim counterparts with a wide leg and a high rise. They feature a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and a large map pocket to the left thigh. The fly fastens with buttons and more buttons are located around the waist to which braces can be attached. These are all the chocolate brown type usually seen on battledress manufactured in 1942 and into 1943 which may be another indication to the date. Pockets are located to each hip which also feature an opening to allow access to clothing worn under the trousers.

The trousers are designed to be worn over the battledress uniform so should be worn oversize for an authentic fit. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 19 1/4"
Rise - 17"
Rear rise - 19"
Inside leg - 32 1/2"
Outside leg - 46 1/2"
Cuff - 9 3/4"

The trousers are in good condition with only some signs of age and wear. They display well and are very wearable but please take time to study the pictures provided and bear in mind that they are a pre-worn work item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A rare pair of original wartime British work trousers rarely encountered today. These would make a fine addition to any collection.
