Fantastic 1944 Dated WAAF Officer's Battledress Jacket by 'Huntsman'

A stunning original private purchase Women's Auxiliary Air Force Battledress Jacket made by the prestigious Savile Row tailor 'Huntsman' in 1944.

This jacket is a very finely made example which would have been tailored for a WAAF officer at great expense. It is made from a fine barathea wool and is beautifully cut, as is to be expected from a Savile Row made item. It features pleated breast pockets to the front which have RAF style scalloped pocket flaps. It also features a notched collar which was a style which was gaining popularity in 1944 but was certainly still a new look which became deregure by the 1950s. The waist belt fastens with a metal wire slide buckle as are commonly encountered on wartime made battledress jackets. There is evidence of where officers rank braid has previously been fitted to the shoulders which prove that the jacket was worn by the original owner. 

The interior is fully lined and features a cotton drill lining to the waistband and a hanging loop at the neck. There are two interior pockets, one of which houses the original label. It bears the maker's name to the top which reads 'Huntsman & Sons Ltd 11 Savile Row' along with the words 'Made in England'. The date of 27th of July 1944 is present, as is the owner's name which is Mrs J. F. Clothier and offers the potential for further research.

The jacket is a small size which will suit around a 30" bust and when laid flat it measures - 

Bust - 18"
Waist - 14"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/4"
Shoulders - 15"
Length - 19"

The jacket is in excellent condition with only very limited signs of wear and use. It is still a nice deep blue coloured and not faded or washed out. There is a small hole to the rear of the collar which is illustrated in the pictures but on the whole it displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-own item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
