An original pair of British Army ammunition boots clearly dated 1945 and in a size 10L.

This pattern of boots, often referred to as 'Ammo boots', came into issue with the British Army in 1936 and saw issue throughout the Second World War and well into the 1950s.

This particular pair were made in 1945 as can be seen from the stamp to the insole. They feature a black pebbled leather exterior and separate stitched toe cap which have been highly polished and would suggest that these were used as 'best' boots. The soles are the original period leather re-soles which feature metal toe plates which are located with the correct slotted head type screws used during WW2 and have one of the four missing, as per austerity regulations. The replacement soles are marked with the War Department WD marking which confirms that they are original period replacements. The heels appear to be the originals and are fitted with metal 'horse shoes', which are again the correct pattern.

The original owner has marked his serial number and name to the top of each boot as illustrated in picture 6 and may offer the prospect of further research. There is also a War Department stamp to the top of each boot as illustrated in picture 7.

Inside the boots the original maker's markings are present to the insole. They feature the maker's initials of 'GW' along with the 1945 date and the size of 10L.

The boots are in very good condition and display well. They show signs of service use and are sound overall.

A good pair of boots with a hard to find wartime date and in a large size.
