An original World War One medal grouping comprising the British War Medal and Interallied Victory Medal, with lengths of original ribbon.
Medals are correctly named as follows;
BWM and Vic - G-11659 PTE. H. W. GIBSON. R. SUSS. R.
Light verdigris to the BWM. The Medal Index Card confirms that Harold Gibson was entitled to a pair. It is not stated on the MIC, but Soldiers Died notes that he was from Kettering and enlisted in Nottingham, serving with the 11th Battalion. It also shows he was killed in action on 29 July 1917.
On the 29 July, the 11/Sussex's were in the line at the 'Hilltop' sector near Ypres. It is reported to be a quiet day, but with three casualties by way of shellfire. Preumably Harold was one of these three.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
