Historically Interesting Naval Ships Wheel from Zerstorer 1, Formerly the USS Anthony, heavy green painted metal ships wheel with tared black roped covering to sections of the six spoke wheel. Brass plaque to the center which is engraved “Hauptsteuerventilrad Zerstorer 1 von der Uff – Gemeinschaft MSanStff Kiel 1974”.

The USS Anthony was a Fletcher-class destroyer of the US Navy. She was heavily involved in naval operations in the Pacific against the Imperial Japanese forces. She survived an attack by a Japanese Kamikaze suicide pilot in 1945, although it caused great damage to the ship. The USS Anthony received 7 battle stars for her service in the Pacific and was awarded a naval unit commendation for her service during the campaign on Okinawa. After the war, she was decommissioned and then loaned to the federal republic of Germany, where she was renamed Zerstorer 1. She was later returned to the US before being sold to West Germany in 1972. She was eventually sunk in the Mediterranean on 16th May 1979, by a torpedo from a German submarine U-29.
