A scarce original pair of Royal Air Force Firefighters MK3A Protective Trousers dating from the 1960s and in good condition.

This pattern of trousers was worn by members of RAF crash rescue teams and similar. It was issued with a matching jacket which was made from the same thick melton wool material which was chosen due to its fireproof qualities. The trousers feature a flat front and a zip fly which fastens with an unbranded metal zipper. The bottom of each leg and fasten with the same style zips employed at the fly. There are buttons positioned around the waist to which braces can be attached and there is a small ticket pocket below the waistband.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the size of 8 below which is the RAF stores reference number 22G/1302521. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present as is the A66A/3413 contract number which dates these trousers to the 1960s. Finally is the manufacturer's name of 'Lifeguard Equipment Limited' who supplied the forces with clothing for many decades.

The trousers are a larger size and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 18 "
Rise - 16"
Rear rise - 20 1/2"
Inside leg - 36"
Outside leg - 48 1/2"
Cuff - 6 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition with no signs of heavy wear or use. They display well and are still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice pair of hard to find RAF trousers from the 1960s.
