For sale is a WW1 1914-1915 Star Full Sized Medal to 73601 DVR George Marsden Royal Field Artillery.    This medal is in good condition, however the medal ribbon is missing. This medal is engraved 73601. Dvr. G. Marsden. R.F.A.   George Marsden was born in 1895, and lived at the following address ; The Cottage, Edwinstone, Newark. Also his trade on enlistment was a Labourer.    George Marsden enlisted to the British army on the 23rd of November 1914 aged 19 years old and 6 months. Upon enlistment he enlisted and served the duration of the war with the 82nd Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery where he served as a driver.    George disembarked for France on the 25th July 1915 after just 8 months of training in Britain. During his time in France he was awarded a ww1 victory medal, ww1 war medal and a ww1 1914-15 star. Unfortunately the only medal that is present is the 1914-1915 star, however this is also missing it’s ribbon.    On the 17th August 1918 George did something wrong and was punished with 2 days no pay, this can be seen on the research sheet marked 1061.    George Marsden was discharged from the royal field artillery on the 13th of May 1919 aged 24 years old.   WW1 Brief History of the 82nd Brigade of the royal field artillery, an understanding of what places and battles George Marsden would have been involved in;   82 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery LXXXII Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, served with 18th (Eastern) Division. 18th (Eastern) Division was established in September 1914, as part of Kitchener's Second New Army. The Division initially concentrated in the Colchester area but moved to Salisbury Plain in May 1915. They proceeded to France in July and concentrated near Flesselles. In 1916 they were in action on The Somme in The Battle of Albert capturing their objectives near Montauban, The Battle of Bazentin Ridge including the capture of Trones Wood, The Battle of Delville Wood, The Battle of Thiepval Ridge, The Battle of the Ancre Heights playing a part in the capture of the Schwaben Redoubt and Regina Trench and The Battle of the Ancre. In 1917 they took part in the Operations on the Ancre including Miraumont and the capture of Irles, the fought during The German retreat to the Hindenburg Line and in The Third Battle of the Scarpe before moving to Flanders. They were in action in The Battle of Pilkem Ridge, The Battle of Langemarck and The First and Second Battle of Passchendaele. In 1918 they saw action during The Battle of St Quentin, The Battle of the Avre, The actions of Villers-Brettoneux, The Battle of Amiens and The Battle of Albert where the Division captured the Tara and Usna hills near La Boisselle and once again captured Trones Wood. They fought in The Second Battle of Bapaume, The Battle of Epehy, The Battle of the St Quentin Canal, The Battle of the Selle and The Battle of the Sambre. At the Armistice the Division was in XIII Corps Reserve near Le Cateau and demobilisation began on the 10th of December 1918.   Accompanying this medal is 10 scans of his service records.
