For sale is a WW1 Victory & War Medal Duo To Cpl J Simpson 409th 1/1st  Lowland Field Company of the Royal Engineers.   This ww1 duo compromising of ww1 victory and a ww1 British war medal are both engraved with the following; “409. 2.Cpl . J. Simpson. R.E”. Both of these medals come with there original ribbons too!    Unfortunately there is not dates that we could find that show when James Simpson enlisted however we do have his disembarkation date from when he leaves the United Kingdom and goes to  France to fight. And this date is 3rd of January 1915.    At the start of the war James Simpson starts of at the rank of saper, but then gets promoted to a lance corporal/ second corporal a few years into his service.    James Simpson was also awarded a ww1 victory medal, a ww1 British war medal whilst serving with the Royal engineers 101st battalion and a 1914-1915 star when serving with the 7th battalion Royal Engineers. Unfortunately this group only has the victory medal and British war medal present.    James Simpson was discharged in the 6th of March 1919.     Below is a little bit of history on the 409th 1/1st  Lowland Field Company of the Royal Engineers to help you get a better understanding of some of the places and battles James would have visitors during his wartime service:   1/1st Lowland Field Company, Royal Engineers served with 1st Division in France from December 1914 onwards. They were later renamed 409th (1/1st Lowland) Field Company.  1st Lowland Field Company, Royal Engineers was a unit of the Territorial Force with its HQ in Rutherglen. It was later renamed 409th (1st Lowland) Field Company.    Accompanying this medal is 3 scans of his service records.
