RAF Queen's Crown Wings & Original Uniform Medal Ribbons of Air Vice Marshal R.B. Thomson CB., DSO., DFC.
A scarce grouping of attributed items, being the original wings and full medal entitlement of the Air Vice Marshal worn on his service / Battle Dress tunics. Pilots wings are flat.
Air Vice Marshal R.B. Thomson CB., DSO., DFC. A pre war pilot originally served with 612 (County of Aberdeen) Squadron. During WW2 he was awarded the DSO (172 SQD 1943) and DFC (1943 206 SQD). He was a Flight Commander with 612 Squadron 1939 to 1943, Flight commander for a short time with 172 Squadron and in May 1943 OC 206 Squadron operating the Flying Fortress. Post War postings included AOC RAF Gibraltar, AOC 18 (Reconnaissance) Group and his finally posting was 1963 AOA HQ Flying Training Command. Created a CB 1959. Retired in 1966 and died in 1984.
