    About this item

An original British Khaki Drill shirt made from cellular cotton and dating from the 1950s.

Khaki Drill shirts were worn throughout the Second World War and well into the 1960s by soldiers, sailors and airmen serving in hot climates. This example is made of cellular cotton, or 'aertex' as it is often called, which is a lightweight, breathable fabric which is ideally suited for wear in hot climates. The shirt features a fully buttoning front which dates it to the post-war period although it features green rubber buttons as used during WW2. Pleated patch pockets are located to the front of the chest and feature scalloped pocket flaps whilst epaulettes can be found at the shoulders and fasten with revolving shank buttons. The collar is a lovely 'spearpoint' shape as was popular in the 1940s and to a lesser degree in the 1950s and the sleeves are short.

The shirt will suit someone with a 40" chest and possibly larger. When laid flat the shirt measures -

    Chest - 22"
    Shoulders - 17 1/2"
    Length - 26 1/2"
    Collar - 15"

The shirt is in reasonable condition for its age and is still very wearable. There is however some staining, particularly to the armpits which can be seen in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage shirt with some issues commensurate with age.

A good original period shirt with some nice details.
