About this item
An original Second World War British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt, clearly dating from the early to mid-war period and made by 'Faulat'.
This pattern of shirt was introduced in the mid 1930s replacing the ‘grey back’ shirt issued during the Great War. The shirt is made from a khaki green wool flannel material and features a half placket, or 'tunic', front which fastens with three buttons. The collar is made of khaki coloured cotton drill whilst the buttons are a mixture of stamped zinc examples as used on early war shirts and brass replacements. The early war zinc buttons are still present to the cuffs whilst the front three buttons have been replaced by stamped brass examples which are period replacements.
The shirt is a small size which will suit around a 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 22 3/4"
Inside arm - 21 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Collar - 15 1/2"
The shirt is in good condition with limited signs of wear and use. There are a couple of holes to the shirt tails at the front and some staining under the arms. It displays well and is wearable but It is a vintage shirt which is over 80 years old so may have small flaws commensurate with age.
Original wartime ordinary ranks shirts are hard to find making this a fantastic collectors piece.
