About this item
An original Second World War British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt which dates from the early to mid-war period and was made by 'Faulat'.
This pattern of shirt was introduced in the mid 1930s replacing the ‘grey back’ shirt issued during the Great War. The shirt is made from a khaki green wool flannel material and features a half placket, or 'tunic', front which fastens with three dark brown coloured plastic buttons. The collar is made of khaki coloured cotton drill which bears the original stamps to the inside including the maker's name of 'Faulat Factory Belfast' and the War Department broad arrow marking.
The shirt is a small size which will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Collar - 13 1/2"
The shirt is in fairly good condition with signs of service wear and use. There is a hole to the front below the placket although this is only noticeable under close scrutiny. It displays well and is wearable but It is a vintage shirt which is over 80 years old and has small flaws commensurate with age.
Original wartime ordinary ranks shirts are hard to find making this a fantastic collectors piece.
