    About this item

An original and rare example of an Australian Royal Navy Officers Khaki Drill Work Shirt dating from the 1940s.

Whilst the Navy traditionally wore white in the tropics Khaki Drill items such as this started to see issue in certain locations during the Second World War where they were deemed more suitable. This example is cut in the same style as the white Royal Navy Officers work shirt from a cotton drill and featuring patch pockets to the chest, short sleeves and three holes on each shoulder to which rank epaulettes can be fixed. Revolving shank buttons are also located to the shoulders.

Inside the collar of the shirt an original label is still present and reads 'David Jones Ltd Sydney N.S.W'. Below this there is a stamp in black ink which reads 'Made in Australia'.

The shirt is a medium size which will suit someone of around a 42" chest, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 24"
    Inside arm - 21 1/4"
    Outside arm - 24"
    Length at back - 36"
    Shoulders - 18 3/4"

The shirt is in good, wearable condition and displays well considering its age. It does have some signs of wear and age but overall appears to be very wearable. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned shirt which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A rare pattern of shirt which would make a good addition to any collection.
