A rare example of a first pattern Auxiliary Territorial Service Cellular Cotton Khaki Drill Blouse as worn during the Second World War.
Cellular cotton, or 'Aertex', was a popular choice of material for British tropical uniforms during the Second World War due to its lightweight, breathable nature.
The shirt features a full button front and pleated patch pockets. The original owner has marked her name and number inside, typical of the period. The rear of the shirt has had a large section cut from the tail, possibly to reduce the excess material to tuck into the skirt and improve smartness.
When laid flat the blouse measures -
Chest - 19"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Length - 24"
The shirt is in good overall condition with no serious issues I can find, aside from the aforementioned missing section of the tail, which shouldn't be visible when worn with a skirt.
A rare example of this pattern of shirt and a must have for the serious women uniform collector!
