A very rare early example. Green cloth, the top and curtain edged with narrow white cloth piping. On the left side a Sphinx badge over EGYPT in gold and silver embroidery. Drab cotton lining with manuscript name of E.W.McK. Ballantyne. Service wear
Edward W.McK. Ballantyne was educated at Harrow and was commissioned into the SWB in 1891. He transferred to the Indian Army in 1893 and repeatedly served on the North West Frontier, earning medals and clasps for the Waziri Expedition 1894-5 and the 1897-98 Campaign. Ballantyne commanded a Squadron in the 27th Light Cavalry. He died in 1911.
