    About this item

A Victorian 1822 pattern infantry officers sword.

This example predating the 1845 single fullered Wilkinson type blade, and with the VR cypher to the gothic hilt, likely dates to the early years of her reign, which commenced in 1837.

Shagreen grips with minor losses, bound with brass twistwire. The hilt with folding guard, which still functions correctly under tension.

The blade is of plain, fighting type, with quill point, measuring 29 inches in length. Shorter than one would expect, but not cut down or modified, so either produced for an officer of smaller stature, or perhaps an officer of Marines.

Housed in its original leather scabbard, with gilded brass mounts. It has twin hanging rings, and a frog stud for the officers crossbelt, another indication of an earlier sword. It is of the same diminutive length as the sword blade.

A good early sword, untouched, exhibiting some unusual features, and with its original intact scabbard.

    Strictly over 18's only.
