    About this item

An early victorian 1827 Pattern Rifle Officers Sword with Pipe back blade.

This example is retailed by "Fisher&Ponder 37 Duke St, London" who were listed at this address as a military tailor between 1840 and 1867. As the pipeback blade was superceded by the 1845 pattern in that year, it would be safe to date this sword between 1840 and 1845.

Regulation gothic 1827 pattern guard with strung bugle within a cartouche. Shagreen grip bound with copper twist wire binding.

The well etched blade with retailers markings the ricasso, strung bugle, crowned VR royal cypher, crossed pennants, and the additional bonus of carrying the original owners initials "M.B.C." in an attractive foliate panel, which offers up an avenue for research.

The pipe backed blade measuring 32 inches overall. Signs of sharpening, minor staining, and nicks to the cutting edge, terminating to a quill point.

Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.

Bright, polished condition to hilt and scabbard, showing signs of old corrosion. Blade tight in the hilt-no movement.

A good and hard to find variation, with the avenue of research into the original owner.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
