About this item
A superb and desirable example of a pipe backed officers sword of the 79th Regiment of foot, The Cameron Highlanders.
Brass gothic style guard with VR cypher, which looks to have recived some small blow(s), causing a small amount of distotion. Retaining a high proportion of original gilt finish. Shagreen grip in excellent condition with all the twistwire binding intact.
Marked to both sides of the ricasso "Prosser, 9 Charing Cross, London". The blade further etched with foliate decoration and the crowned VR Cypher. The blade generally excellent, with some wear at the ricasso. Some movement between hilt and blade.
Housed in a contempoary steel scabbard, likely a field replacement after the brass mounted leather original was damaged, and far more suited to field service.
Blade length 34 inches.
*Prosser operated from No 9 Charing Cross from 1797 until 1860.
Strictly over 18's only.
