About this item
A very good Antique 19thC Customs and Excise Rummage Stick.
The concept was for the user to poke sacks, and bales with the robust square section blade to search for contraband concealed within. It could also serve as a secondary weapon, should the occasion call for it.
This is a scarce Government issue bamboo example dating to the 1840's with "Enfield" marking and a crowned inspection marking.
22.75 inch long square tapering blade with slight rust, minor pitting and staining. The swollen grip of polished bamboo. The collar mount originally appears to have been silver or nicel plated, but the brass body has now bled through. Some small splits to the bamboo body, but solid and overall in good condition for its age.
31 inches in length overall.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
