    About this item

A very good George V Army Service Corps regimental pattern officers sword.

Three bar hilt of 1821 pattern, chequered pommel and back strap. The grip of shagreen bound with original copper twistwire, all complete and in very good condition.

The 35 inch blade of polished steel. Bright and crisp etching, crowned GV monarchs cypher, and the usual foliate engravings. Interestingly the blade has been professionally service sharpened. Coupled with the absence of a regimental badge and makers details this would indicate that this sword was produced during the First World War.

Looking at the proof slug, it would appear to be a trade sword, manufactured by the well regarded S.J. Pillin, which would certainly date this sword between 1910 and 1922. (Septimus John Pillin was a sword cutler with premises at 31 Gerrard Street, Soho, London between 1881 and 1922.)

Housed in its original brown leather field service scabbard,  in excellent condition.

Some minor staining to the blade, and very light staining/pitting to the hilt.

Overall a very good example of a suprisingly hard to find sword. This sword which would be suitable for a serving officer with some light polishing and cleaning.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
