About this item
Rare and original c.1860’s Mexican Army cavalry soldier’s sword. These swords were produced in Europe by German swordmakers and then exported to retialers, Wexel and De Gress (see blade forte) who were Colt and Winchester dealers in Mexico City in the 1860’s, and sold to the Republic of Mexico who used them throughout the late-19th Century. There are the faint remains of an “RM” (Republic of Mexico) to the obverse of the ricasso. Grip stilll retaining all original leather wrap and brass twistwire. Blade in good, clean conditon and comes complete with original steel scabbard. Good and scarce example. Blade length is 33.5 inches (40 inches overall).
