    About this item

A good George IV Honourable East India Company Officers Sword of 1822 pattern.

This example is likely one of the earliest 1822 patterns produced, and narrowed to an eight year production window.

The hilt of regulation 1822 Infantry pattern, with the lion badge of the HEIC surmounting the crest of George IV. Some deformation to the brass guard, and the folding guard with a small crack, although it still operates under spring tension. The brass retains a reasonable amount of its original gold gilt finish.

The shagreen and wire grip is around 80/85% present, with some small areas of loss. The blade is firm in the hilt.

The pipe backed blade has been service sharpened, with a length of just under 32 inches. The blade is in good uncleaned blade, with old rust, and staining. Some light pitting to the rear "pipe". The blade has mirored etching to both sides, showing floral sprays and the liod crest of the HEIC. There is no sign of a makers marking.

Retained in its original black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts, with twin hanging rings, and a frog stud. Good overall condition, and a rarity in itself.

Good untouched condition throughout,  it would benefit from some sympathetic cleaning to bring it up to a good collectors standard.

HEIC swords in any condition are uncommon, and early pipe back pieces such as this are few and far between.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
