A very good, named example of a George VI Royal Naval Officers Sword.
Regulation 1827 Pattern hilt, with ray skin grip bound with copper wire. Carrying the original officers name to the folding guard, which also served to lock the sword into the scabbard. This still functioning crisply. Original sword knot present.
Single fullered 31.5 inch blade etched with the retailers name "Gieves". Carrying a date at the ricasso, possibly a manufacturer date, or a refurbishment date. Standard etching of ropework with floral and acord etching, with the crowned GVI cypher to both sides. Some old areas of dark staining/rust/pitting, but mostly bright.
Housed in the correct and original brass mounted leather scabbard, with some shrinkage.
