Victorian 15th Hussars Officer’s Sword

A good, untouched example of a scarce 15th Hussars Officer’s 1821 pattern Sword.

The regulation three bar hilt in good condition, the shagreen grip with minor losses at the edges, grip wire absent. Finely executed chequered pommel.

34.5 inch blade marked at the ricasso "Hawkes & Co, London Manufacturers to the Queen" This is generally accepted as being the earliest form of marking on a Hawkes retailed sword, before thier move to Picadilly. Combined with the Charles Reeves proof slug found on the opposite ricasso, it would seem likely that this sword dates to the early/mid 1850's.

Etched with the crowned regimental badge, "The Kings Hussars" in a banner with the regimental number XV within. Also featuring the regiments various battle honours, floral swags, and VR cypher. 

Some dark staining towards the point, ninor edge nicks to the service sharpened blade, but generally bright, with all etching legible. Blade firm in the hilt.

Housed in its steel scabbard with twin hanging rings. 

Generally a very good untouched example, quite a difficult sword to find.
