About this item
A very good example Victorian Constabulary Police Sword.
Brass stirrup guard and shagreen grip are in good condition, with no losses. No movement between blade and hilt. The curved, single fullered blade measures 23 inches, and is rather beautifully etched "R.S. GARDEN. 29 PICCADILLY LONDON" within a floral cartouche along the fuller of the left hand side. To the right hand side in the same area appears to have been another etched panel, which has been polished away/removed. Some minor staining to the blade in places, but generally bright, and in original polish.
Robert Spring Garden operated at this address between 1862 and 1877 as a sword cutler and gunmaker.
Complete with brass mounted leather scabbard in solid condition. Some minor scuffing, but generally very good. The hilt mounted safety catch is working perfectly, and still locks the sword into the scabbard.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
