About this item
A good, untouched 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officers Sword by Henry Wilkinson.
This example is unusual, in having a plain fighting blade, bearing only the Wilkinson Proof slug and address markings to either ricasso, and the etched initials of the original owner. These are overlaid "F.T.M."
The Wilkinson ledger page shows the blade was proved on the 22nd January 1876. The purchasers name appears to be F.T. Miles or possibly Mills. However, there is an F.T. Mills serving with the 18th Hussars, listed as serving as ADC to Sir Patrick MacDougall.
Further research required.
Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings. One of the wooden liner's has shifted, which can effect sheathing the sword, although when you get it correctly positioned, the sword is an excellent fit in the scabbard.
Generally good condition overall, minor loss to the shagreen grip. Hilt tight to the blade. Even patina to the hilt and scabbard, the 34.75 inch blade retaining most of its factory finish, the tip reprofiled during its service life.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
