About this item
A superb 1827 pattern Rifle Brigade Presentation Sword by Wilkinson.
Presentation inscription reads "PRO HONORE PRESENTED BY THE COMMITTEE OF THE 16TH BATT RIFLE BRIGADE (ST PANCRAS) TO MAJOR W.J. KING M.C. 24TH MAY 1919"
Sword in very pleasing condition, nickel plated hilt and scabbard with shagreen and silver twistwire grip with minor wear. Some plating loss/discolouration to the interior of the guard.
The 32.5 inch blade carries the presentation inscription down its left side, along with the Wilkinson makers details at the ricasso. "London Made" to the swords spine, along with the serial number 56817.
The right hand side carried the proof slug, kings crown, GV royal cypher, and the 16th Batt Rifle Brigade within a shield.
Blade is very clean and bright, with minimal staining toward the tip.
I have not been able to find many details on Major King, but I know he served with the RAF from 1918. Plenty of opportunity for the new owner to research how and why he earned the MC, and also the details behind the presentation of this excellent sword.
Strictly over 18's only.
