For sale is a WW1 Death Plaque To Clifford Harry Sims Who Served With The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Clifford Harry Sims service number was Z/12113 and his rank was Ordinary Seaman where he served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Clifford was born on the 26th July 1900, in Birmingham. He was called up for duty in 1918, on his 18th birthday. His occupation on enlistment was a bank clerk. Clifford’s description was 5ft 8 inches in height, dark brow hair, hazel eyes, with a fresh complexion. During his short enlistment he served at Victory VI which was a shore establishment. Clifford Harry Sims died on the 9th of October 1918 from influenza aged 18 years of age. Clifford Harry Sims Remembered was with Honour and buried at Birmingham (Yardley) Cemetery. In a newspaper article his death was written, this states: “SAILOR BOY'S DEATH. Much sympathy is felt with Mrs. Sims, 168, Somerville Road, Small Heath, in the Loss of her youngest son, Able-Seaman Clifford Harry Sims, R.N.V.R. This young lad-be was only 18-had a promising career before him. He was educated at Somerville Road Council School, where he secured a Grammar School Scholarship and subse quently he attended Camp Hill Grammar School. On leaving he entered the employ of the London City and Midland Bank, Temple Bow. On reaching military age be was called up for service and joined the Wireless Section of the R.N.V.R., and had been training only since the end of August. He complained of feeling unwell on coming home for a short leave this month and died at home shortly afterwards from influenza and bronchitis. Able Seaman Sims attended 8. Cyprian's Church,, Hay Mill. The funeral took place at Yardley Cemetery, the family mourners being Mr. Bydney Sims (brother), Pte. Stanley Sims, ABO (M.T. (brother), Mr. H. Wood (uncle), Mr. E. Lees (uncle), and Mr. G. Farnen (brother-in-law). Six school ohume from Camp Hill were also present. There wore a large number of floral tributes-The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mors Ambie Bros” Accompanying this medal is 11 scans of his service records.
