    About this item

An original pair of Royal Navy Class I and Class III trousers dating from the 1940s which were made by 'Gieves'. This pattern was worn in hot climates by Chief Petty Officers, Petty Officers and various types of seamen who did not wear square rig.

These trousers are typical of those produced in the 1930s and 1940s. Made from a white cotton drill they feature a high rise waist and wide leg. The fly fastens with buttons with more fitted around the waist to which braces can be attached. All the buttons are plated metal as are often found on this style of naval uniform. Slash pockets are located to the hips and there are no rear pockets.

Inside the trousers the original maker's label is present and features the 'Gieves' name. It is the style used during the 1940s which dates the trousers. There was also a matching jacket by the same maker dated 1945 which further confirms the date.

The trousers will suit someone of around a 33" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -

    Waist - 16 3/4"
    Rise - 15"
    Rear rise - 21"
    Inside leg - 32 1/2"
    Outside leg - 42 1/2"
    Cuff - 10"

The trousers are in used condition with various stains and marks. some stitching has come away below the fly although this is evident when worn. There is also a loss of stitching to one of the cuffs at the side seam. These flaws have been reflected in the price so please take the time to study the pictures properly before purchasing.

A worn pair of vintage work trousers from a prestigious maker.
