About this item
An original pair of 1940s white cotton drill shorts with large brass waist buckle.
These shorts are typical of those worn in the 1940s and 1950s by both military personnel and civilians. Like many items made during this period they could be a private purchase pair of military shorts as many officers had new uniforms locally made whilst serving in the tropics.
The construction of the shorts is fairly standard for the period. They are made from a white colour cotton drill and feature a button fly, two slash pockets to each hip and no rear pocket. What sets these shorts aside from others however is the brass buckle used to fasten the front of the shorts which is the same as those used on the waist belts of tunics. This is an uncommon style to encounter but a great piece of design. The buckle is removable for washing, as is usual with tropical items such as this.
The shorts will fit someone of around a 26" waist and when laid flat measure -
Waist - 13 1/2"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Inside leg - 7 1/2"
Outside leg - 19 1/2"
Cuff - 15"
The shorts are in good condition with some signs of wear and use as can be seen in the pictures. Please bear in mind that these are a pre-owned pair of vintage shorts which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice pair of original 1940s shorts with a great waist belt detail!
