    About this item

An original pair of 1942 dated British military Hospital blues trousers in good condition.

This pattern of trousers was produced during the Second World War for men who were in hospital or convalescent homes. It was issued as part of a three piece suit which included a matching waistcoat and jacket. They are made from a bright French blue coloured serge wool and are cut in an early style which would not have looked out of place during the Edwardian period or the 1920s. The trousers feature a flat front and straight slash pockets which are all typical early 20th Century features. The fly fastens with buttons and more buttons are fitted around the waist to which braces can be attached. Originally there would have been a drawcord at the waist but this has been removed and replaced with a press stud at the top of the fly. The trousers are a truly utilitarian design and do not feature a lining.

There is an original War Department acceptance stamp to the interior which does not feature a letter code for the year. This is sometimes encountered and is often on early war items. There is also a War Department broad arrow inside the waistband and the name of a costume hire company has been added in ink.

The trousers are a larger size which will suit around a 38" waist depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Waist - 19 3/4"
    Rise - 17"
    Rear rise - 19"
    Inside leg - 27 1/2" (6" to let down)
    Outside leg - 41 1/2" (6" to let down)
    Cuff - 10"

The trousers are in very good condition with no real signs of wear and use. They display very well and are still very fresh being a strong bold colour with no signs of fading or washing-out of the blue coloured. They are a vintage pre-owned item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice original example of this hard to find pattern of trousers.
