    About this item

An original pair of 1944 dated Women's Auxiliary Air Force Battledress Trousers in good condition.

This pattern of trousers was introduced into service with the WAAF in 1941 as a working dress. Made from serge wool which is dyed the regulation RAF blue colour, the slacks feature a side button opening which fasten with black plastic buttons. Another button is located to the middle of the front of the waistband and is used to fasten the matching battledress blouse to the trousers.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and bears the title 'Suits, Working, Serge, W.A.A.F. Trousers' and the size of 2. The manufacturer's name of 'B. Bloom Ltd' is also present as is the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The trousers have been altered with a small section added in the waist and extra sections added to length the leg. These have been professionally done and at the same time. When laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 16"
    Hips - 32"
    Inside leg - 28 3/4"

The trousers are in good condition with no signs of serious wear or use. They display very well and are still very much wearable. They are of course a vintage, pre-owned item however so may have small issues commensurate with this.

A good example of these hard to find trousers, complete with a nice clear wartime date. These would make a good addition to any collection.
