About this item
An original pair of French Army Model 1947 Trousers dating from the late 1950s to early 1960s.
This pattern of trousers was introduced in the immediate post-war years and saw service in Indochina and the Algerian War amongst others. These trousers are the fourth pattern which are referred to as the 1959 modification.
The trousers are made from a heavy weight, hard wearing herringbone twill cotton and feature slash pockets to the hips, cargo pockets to the side of each leg, tabs at the bottom of the legs and two rear pockets. Chocolate brown coloured buttons are fitted which are typical of the period and belt loops can be found at the waist. The knees feature reinforced sections which are made from the same herringbone twill material.
Inside the trousers the maker's stamp is still bright and legible and reads 'S.CE.G.A.M Bernay'. There is also a white size label that states the size as 13.
The trousers will suit around a 34" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -
Waist - 17"
Rise - 13 1/2"
Rear rise - 17"
Inside leg - 28"
Outside leg - 40"
Cuff - 9 1/2"
The trousers are in excellent condition with no signs of previous wear and use. They could be described as new old stock or deadstock. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item and may have small issues consummate with their age.
A nice pair of post-war French military trousers!
