    About this item

An original pair of 1951 dated British Denim Battledress Trousers in good condition and in a size No. 12 - the largest size produced.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforized cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

This particular pair still retains their original manufacturer's label to the interior. It states the size as No. 12 which is designed to fit someone a tall person with a 37" - 39" waist. The manufacturer's name of 'C.W.S Ltd' is present which denotes the Co-Operative, better known today as the Co-Op, as the manufacturer. The 1952 date is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

It is important to remember that these are designed to fit over the wool battledress trousers so need to be worn oversize for an authentic fit.

When laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 20"
    Rise - 18 1/2"
    Rear rise - 21"
    Inside leg - 33"
    Outside leg - 48 1/2"
    Cuff - 10 1/4"

The trousers are in good condition for their age and with some signs of wear and use. There is a repair to the fly as illustrated in picture 5 and some minor discoloration around the waistband area. Overall they are very clean and still very wearable and in good condition aside from the aforementioned flaws. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a pre-worn pair of vintage trousers with some small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice original pair of denim trousers in the largest size and in very wearable condition.
