Original 1952 Dated British Denim Battledress Trousers - Size 9
An original pair of British Denim Battledress Trousers in excellent condition and in a size No. 9.
This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforised cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.
This particular pair still retains their original manufacturer's label to the exterior of the seat. It states the size as No. 9 which is designed to fit someone with a 33-35". It is important to remember that these are designed to fit over the wool battledress trousers so need to be worn oversize for an authentic fit. When laid flat they measure -
Waist - 19"
Rise - 19"
Rear rise - 21 1/2"
Inside leg - 32"
Outside leg - 47"
Cuff - 10"
The label also bears the manufacturers name 'A. Raven & Co. Ltd' and the War Department broad arrow marking. The 1952 date is also present.
The trousers are in excellent condition for their age and appear to have never been washed. The denim material is still bright and stiff with no signs of serious wear or use although there is limited staining and some marks. Overall, the trousers are in very good condition although they are not perfect new old stock examples.
A very nice original pair of denim trousers in a good, larger size and fantastic condition.
