    About this item

An original pair of British fireman's wool serge trousers, dating from 1952.

This pattern of trousers closely resembles earlier wartime trousers being made from a heavy serge wool and featuring a fish tail back and straight slash pockets. Serge wool was used for battledress as well as workwear for many years in the UK due to its hard wearing nature and warmth. These trousers would have been worn with the matching double breasted tunic.

The interior of the trousers feature a white coloured cotton drill lining around the waist. Stamped to this is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'C' which denotes 1952 as the year of issue. The original label is also still present to the exterior and bears the title of 'Trousers Firemen Serge Blue F.S.8'. The size is stated as 22A and the maker's name of 'James Smith & Co (Derby) Ltd' is also present.

The sizes are stated on the label but when laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 18 1./2"
    Inside leg - 32"
    Outside leg - 45 1/2"
    Rise - 16"
    Rear rise - 21"
    Cuff - 9"

The trousers are in good condition with some signs of age and wear. There are some small flaws which are illustrated in the pictures and they are a vintage pre-owned pair of trousers so may have other small issues consummate with age. Please study the pictures as they form part of the description.

All in all a fairly good pair of original early 1950s trousers in great condition which would be suitable for a number of WW2 Home Front re-enactment impressions.
