About this item
An original pair of British Military 1949 Pattern Khaki Drill shorts in good condition.
This pattern of shorts actually came into issue with the Royal Air Force at the end of the Second World War but the official pattern came into issue a couple of years later. They saw service for a number of years with the British Army and RAF. This style with the cross belt fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha Shorts'.
The shorts feature the cross belt closure and come complete with their original chrome plate buckles. These are removable for washing purposes and are often missing from shorts and trousers offered on the market today.
Inside the shorts retain their original maker's label which is still legible. The size which is marked as No.7. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present as is another smaller one which reads 'Fully Shrunk'. The 1955 date is also present.
Due to the style of the waistband the shorts are slightly adjustable. When fastened they measure -
Waist - 14"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 18"
Inside leg - 6"
Outside leg - 18 1/2"
Cuff - 13 1/2"
The shorts are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They have clearly been washed and laundered but don't show any real signs of undue wear. There is a stain to the seat as can be seen in the pictures which has been reflected in the price. Please study the pictures as they form part of the description.
All in all a nice pair of original 1949 pattern shorts which would make a great addition to any summer wardrobe.
