    About this item

An original pair of scrace 1940s men's corduroy trousers complete with the CC41 utility label.

This style of trousers was popular with men in Great Britain during the 1940s for work. Made from a thick brown corduroy which was ideally suited for workwear due to its hard wearing qualities. It is also a very warm fabric which made it a popular choice in winter. The trousers are cut in keeping with the style of the period and feature a high rise waist, a wide leg and a fishtail back. Other features which are typical of the period are the button fly, straight slash pockets to the hips and single rear pocket. Buttons are fitted around the top of the waist which can be used to support braces.

Inside the trousers the original CC41 label is still present and denotes that these trousers were made inline with the austerity measures put in place in Great Britain in 1941. This scheme lasted until the end of the decade and was designed to ensure that good quality, affordable clothing would be available to people from all classes and walks of life whilst rationing was in place. It has now become a very collectable label.

There is also evidence of where a paper manufacturers label may have previously been attached. Near the CC41 label are the telltale large stitches which were often found holding a label to a garment in this period.

The trousers are a reasonable size which will fit around a 34" waist and when laid flat measure -

    Waist - 17 1/2"
    Inside leg - 31 3/4"
    Rise - 14"
    Rear rise - 19"

The trousers are in good condition for their age but have various signs of wear and age as can be seen in the pictures. These are a vintage pair of work trousers and have issues commensurate with this. Please study the pictures.

Overall the trousers are very wearable and have a good look about them. It is rare to find original 1940s workwear trousers today and the CC41 label is an added bonus. A great addition to any wardrobe or collection!
