About this item
An original 1940 dated Home Guard rubberised haversack as used during World War Two.
This pattern of haversack formed part of the standard Home Guard equipment during WW2. It is a simple haversack design and is made from a khaki coloured rubberised cotton. The front flap fastens with a brass twig buckle and there is a single strap which is directly stitched to the bag. To the underside of the flap the original maker's stamp is still present and bears the manufacturer's name of 'Pioneer Rubber Company' as well as the 1940 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.
The bag is in fairly good condition with some signs of wear and age. The rubberised material has stiffened in some places as is often the case with vintage rubberised items. None-the-less it still displays well whilst not a perfect example.
A nice original piece of Home Guard equipment which is hard to find!
