    WW1 Highland Light Infantry Attributed Officer’s Doublet.

    A scarce 1917 pattern shoulder rank doublet tunic attributed to Major James Reid People. The doublet is tailored in Bedford cord (usually for trench use) by J Christie & Son of Edinburgh, the interior with tailors label with ink name. Complete with regimental collar badges, buttons and Major rank crowns. The left breast with medal ribbons indicating a 1914 Mons Star Trio with a Mention in Despatch. Also tailored wth the Great War feature of a false waistband and able to be buttoned with the collar up. often referred as a anti gas precaution.  Condition near VGC.
    Approx armpit to armpit  19 inches

    Major James Reid Peploe studied at Cheltham College. He was granted a commission and at the outbreak of the Great War was serving with the 6th Gurkha Rifles. He landed in France on the 8th November 1914. In 1916 he transferred to the Highland Light Infantry with the rank of Captain. A photographic portrait is housed in the National Portrait Gallery and a digital image is shown, serving with the Gurkha’s.
