    About this item

A fine example of a Kriegsmarine Junior NCO’s Pea Jacket to a Matrosenobergefreiter (leading Seaman) Radio Operator.

Often referred to as the “Collani” in reference to a well known uniform manufacturer in Berlin, this Jacket was made in Copenhagen for the occupying forces. Constructed in a heavy ribbed wool material it is closed by five double rows of gilt buttons all marked on the reverse Kriegsmarine and with a mix of dates of 1943 and 42. In the first button hole is ribbon for the Iron Cross Second Class, correctly stitched into place and there loops for two awards on the left side. There are two flapped hip pockets.

On the right breast is a hand embroidered eagle in golden wire, the wreath in Celleon thread giving a nice contrast, whilst a pair of plain cornflower blue wool collar tabs are stitched to the upper lapels.

The left sleeve has the combined insignia for a Radio Operator Obergefreiter, the lightning bolt in machined golden cotton, the chevrons in gilt wire. Towards the lower part of the Sleeve is a machine embroidered Career Insignia for a Gunner Observer of automatic anti-aircraft weapons

Inside, the Jacket is lined with a heavy ribbed material with two pockets. There is a coat hook and name tag to Heinz Mehler. The lining to the right sleeve is marked with the measurements (approx. a 37” chest) and details of the maker in Copenhagen

Overall condition is very good with no sign of moth or other damage.
