Original 1940s British Police Chief Inspector's Macintosh Raintcoat

An original British Police officer's raincoat dating from the 1940s and in very good condition. 

This coat is made from a rubberised canvas as was a popular choice for raincoats during this period. Unlike many vintage rubberised items, this coat has stayed very pliable meaning it can still be easily worn. The cut of the coat is typical of the period featuring a single breasted button front fastening which is covered by a fly. Flapped pockets are located to the front and there are black painted metal eyelets under each arm to allow the coat to breathe. Epaulettes are fitted at the shoulders and feature three police pattern rank stars to each which denotes that the original wearer was a Chief Inspector.

Inside the coat there is a metal hanging chain at the neck which is a typical period feature. There is also a throat latch which can be removed and fitted across the collar of the coat in foul weather. There are also the remnants of a manufacturer's paper label which is again typical of the era.

That coat will suit a 38" chest and when laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 3/4"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"

The coat is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. Overall it is in good condition and is still very wearable. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
